The Big Daddy Gus
The Big Daddy Gus began with a custom request: a client brought Dusty two of his favorite old hats and asked her to combine their characteristics into a single design. The result became Dusty’s distinctive take on the classic Gus. Its exaggerated hand-shaped crown rises from 2 3/4 inches in front to 6 3/4 inches in back, paired with a broad 4-inch unbound brim. The examples shown demonstrate the design in Silver Belly and Granite, with a simple grosgrain ribbon hatband that lets the dramatic silhouette take center stage. Designed for both men and women, The Big Daddy Gus grew from a one-client idea into a recognizable Dusty’s Originals hat style.
