The Gentleman Rancher
The Gentleman Rancher was inspired by Murdo Mackenzie, a prominent cattleman Dusty admired for his hard work, dedication, and reputation for square dealing. Rather than the gunfighter mythology of the Old West, Mackenzie's story was one of determination, leadership, and what Dusty describes as “gunless grit.” Her vision for the hat comes from imagining Mackenzie representing Western cattlemen in Washington, advocating for relief from railway fees that were cutting deeply into ranchers' profits. The result is a restrained, dignified Western design that feels equally at home on the ranch or dressed for town. Shown in Chocolate Brown, The Gentleman Rancher features a 4 1/2-inch hand-shaped crown, 3-inch unbound brim, and narrow grosgrain hatband. Its clean finish and traditional proportions give it an understated character befitting the story behind its name. Handmade in the USA, it is Dusty's interpretation of a Western hat for someone whose reputation was built not on showmanship, but on character and accomplishment.
